Hi all, In Particular the Pointe Claire Etchells Fleet Members.

Subject: Lobster Bowl - Portland Yacht Club Sept 25-27

Looking forward at potential regattas, we have the OYS Regatta in Oakville August 6-9, The Labour Day Regatta in Hudson, QC, Sept 5-7, and The Etchells North American Championship in Rye N.Y. Sept 8-12.
To finish off the summer sailing season in fine fashion there is one more amazing regatta, and that is the Lobster Bowl in Portland Maine at Portland Yacht Club, Sept 25-27 . The NOR will be available shortly, I will publish it here on the blog when it is available. The regatta registration and some info is presently available at www.regattaman.com. Open the site, click on calendar, cursor down to the Sept 26-27 date to the Etchells Fleet 27 Casco Bay listing and click the "info" and/or "register" button.
I couple of us attended it a few years back and we had a fabulous time. The venue is both beautiful and great for sailing. A very welcoming fleet, usually flat water with good wind and not a terribly bad drive to get to.
Please see below some of the emails that have gone back and forth between Ralph Carpenter of the Portland Etchells fleet and me, it will give you some additional info.
Hope to see you some of you there.
Cheers,
Paul Laflamme

What follows are the emails to either the Hudson Etchells sailors or the Portland Maine Regatta organizer about the Lobster Bowl regatta.
*******************************************************************************
TO Hudson Etchells sailors:
The entry software for the Lobster Bowl, Regattaman.com is up and
running. I had email conversation with one of the Regatta
organizers, Ralph Carpenter, the contents of which I have pasted
below. He said he will get back to me about potential
accommodations, he also said the NOR will be posted in the next
    couple of days.

According to him, it promises to be a good turnout, there were 19
boats last year, and with the NAs in Rye NY a couple of weeks
before, they hope to have some holdover boats from that event, plus
our 2-4 boats from MTL. All in all there is good reason to think
that they could have 25 boats at the Lobster Bowl.

Anyways, have a look at the emails below and check out the
registration site at www.regattaman.com, only 3 entries at the
moment, but the entry form has only been available for a 2-3 days,
so the list will be growing over the coming weeks. The Portland
fleet has 19 boats, of which 14 are quite active, this is a good
base to start from, then, add to that the "away" boats that will be
joining in from Marblehead, Lake Champlain, Long Island Sound etc. This regatta should turn out to be a great "close the
season" regatta for everyone to enjoy, not to mention the lobster
    bake on the Saturday evening.

    Cheers

We are very excited you can make it this year.  Registration
is now open on regattaman.com    The NORs are done, just pending
approval by the chief judge.  I will be posting an info article on
our fleet website, etchellsfleet27.blogspot.com in the next couple
of days.  Launch will be on Friday September 25 at Handy Boat
Services, right next door to Portland Yacht Club.  Welcome
gathering at the yacht club on Friday evening, racing Saturday and
Sunday, big Lobster shore dinner at the club  on Saturday night.
We are working to have a 30 boat regatta.  We expect about 12 to
15 boats from our fleet, about 5 from Marblehead, your 3, and 10
from "other " places.  I am also reaching out to those who are
participating in the North Americans in Rye New York earlier in
the month to keep their boats "North" and come race in the Lobster
      Bowl.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

    Best regards   Ralph Carpenter

    Hi Ralph,

Thanks for the info, I will share it with the Montreal Fleet
members. It looks like there could be a big turnout! Hope there
are enough lobsters in Casco Bay to feed everyone! LOL
Is Handy Boat Services charging for launch and haul out? If
so, how much and how will it be charged? (add on to entry fee or
      separate cash deal?)
Ever since your fleet held the New England Championship back
in 2005-06, we have talked about going back to Portland, but our
club championship schedule has interfered with the schedule.
Finally we will be able to participate in this much talked about
      event.

Any suggestions for accommodations? for example, a motel or
hotel that has a suite (2 beds and a pull out couch) to handle 3
people. Of course being sailors it has to be reasonably priced. Or
perhaps a whole house that 2-3 boats could rent? Let me know if
      you have any ideas.

As I said, I'll spread the word to the other Etchellians in
the Montreal area, perhaps we can coax a couple more boats come
      out.

     Cheers

     Paul
